Between 1960 and 1963, renowned Wisconsin writer poet,
lecturer, editor (etc.) August Derleth (1909-1971) edited
and published a magazine with the title Hawk & Whippoorwill
devoted to poems of man and nature. Though simply designed,
the saddle-stitch journal was widely esteemed for its uncommon
integrity. Original contributors, other than Derleth himself,
included James T. Farrell, John Beecher, Felix Stefanile,
Carleton Drewry, and Helga Sandburg. The Pen & Anvil
Press is pleased to announce that in summer 2008, Augie's
"little magazine" was revived by editors Matthew
Kelsey and Jon Wooding, with the endorsement and support
of April Derleth.
